Jo-Ann Maglipon, a veteran entertainment journalist and the editor-in-chief of Yes! magazine, said Willie Revillame could have avoided the mess he is in right now if he had more control of his emotions.

Revillame asked to be released as an ABS-CBN talent after airing his sentiments over Jobert Sucaldito’s alleged non-stop criticisms against Wowowee. He also demanded on national TV that ABS-CBN fire Sucaldito.

Revillame and the management of ABS-CBN on Monday held a meeting where the controversial host apologized to them.

During the meeting, both parties agreed that Revillame would take an “indefinite break.”

In her interview with ABS-CBN News, Maglipon said Revillame should have spoken with his ABS-CBN bosses in a proper forum to air his grievances, instead of doing it on his popular noontime show.

She said: “He may be stressing a good point or the correct point, but he will not get the correct results if he alienates the very people he has to talk to, for instance, the ABS-CBN management.”

“He has to give his network a graceful exit; he did not. So, what’s ABS to do? ABS cannot look like a patsy by agreeing to get rid of somebody no matter how flawed that somebody is. If he is flawed, because management has been pushed to the wall, and having been pushed to the wall, they have to fight back, they have to have self-respect as well,” she added.

Maglipon, however, pointed out that Revillame should not be entirely blamed. She said the public “should not keep assuming that he will be in the best of health or in the best of enthusiasm” every time he goes on air.

“Imagine carrying a show for 3 hours, 6 days a week? And also, he was campaigning, I think, day in and day out for this candidate, and then he proceeds directly to his show where you need a great deal of energy,” she said.

Maglipon also noted that Revillame is still a force to reckon with.

“At this stage, I think nanaig ang pagod. Kapag nakapagpahinga si Willie, palagay ko maaring mag-iba ang pakiramdam niya tungkol sa pagtrabaho sa ABS-CBN, which has treated him very well and given him the biggest breaks… not that he hasn’t given anything to ABS-CBN. He has given a lot to ABS-CBN,” she added.

Maglipon also disagreed with public perception that fame has already gotten into Revillame’s head.

“I’m not going to say that it’s yabang…He is self-made, at kapag self-made ka mayroon, kang angas… So, meron pa din si Willie na ganoon. So, nangyari noong hinamon niya ang boss on national television, I think hindi niya intention na hiyain at duruin ang kanyang mga boss,” she said. -ABS-CBNnews
