Charmaine Clarice Relucio Pempengco or more popularly known as Filipino singing sensation “Charice” had her baptism and confirmation Saturday morning along with her brother Carl at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Pasig City.

“Very happy ako na Catholic ako ngayon at ‘yung mga ninong at ninang ko dumating… Thanks so much. Sobrang blessings po ang dumating ngayong araw na ito,” Charice said.

Her mother, Raquel, was by her side during the ceremony, which was covered by local and foreign media.

The godparents present in the occasion were ABS-CBN president Charo Santos-Concio, broadcasters Julius Babao and Karen Davila, entertainment hosts Boy Abunda, Kris Aquino, Jobert Sucaldito and Ricky Lo, as well as Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) main man, Direk Lauren Dyogi.

“I wish to congratulate Charice and her brother for this special day. I hope God continues to shower her with his light and his grace so Charice would continue to be a role model hindi lang para sa kabataan dito sa Pilipinas kung di para sa lahat ng kabataan sa buong mundo,” Santos-Concio said.

Representatives of Charice’s mentors Oprah Winfrey and David Foster were also in attendance. Charice said she felt honored that Winfrey and Foster accepted her invitation to be part of her very special day.

“I wish them all the best in life and I hope na mas lalo silang maging mabubuting Katoliko at mas lalo nilang mapalawig ang pananampalataya ng mas maraming Pilipino sa Panginoon dahil sa kanilang bagong relihiyon,” Babao said.

“I want to wish you not just the best. I want to tell you that all your success hindi lang pamilya mo ang masaya, hindi lang kami sa ABS-CBN, kung ‘di ang buong Pilipinas ay masaya dahil anumang tagumpay mo, ikaw ang representative ika nga ng buong Pilipinas,” Davila said.

After the ceremony, Charice held a mini concert and gift-giving for about 300 children in celebration of her 18th birthday.

She performed her single “Pyramid” of her first international album and the song “We are the World.”

Charice said she couldn’t ask for a better birthday present. “Sobrang blessings po ang dumating ngayong araw na ito,” said Charice.

Charice has a number of outreach functions to attend to and will be leaving for Japan on Monday to promote her first international album.
