Philippine fast-food giant Jollibee is currently the talk of the town for its short appearance on American musical television show “Glee.”

The restaurant, popular for its fried chicken, spaghetti and hamburgers, was shown in the background as Artie Abrams (played by Kevin McHale) performed a dance number at Eagle Rock Mall in Los Angeles, California.

Video clips and images from the “Glee” episode were uploaded on the Internet on Tuesday, and became a hot topic on Twitter.

As of 4:11 p.m., Jollibee is the 5th top trending topic on the said microblogging site.

“Still can’t get over the fact that Jollibee is trending. Jollibee on Glee! Jolliglee! Woohoo! Filipino pride!” said Twitter user LiaQuintans07.

“Jollibee makes me proud,” added Twitter user Azulnoventa.

Jollibee has been a household name in the Philippines for its Filipino-style fast-food fare. What started as a 2-branch ice cream parlor in 1975 is now considered the largest and most popular fast-food chain in the country.

Aside from the United States, Jollibee has branches in Brunei, Hong Kong and Saudi Arabia, among others.

‘Pleasantly surprised’

This is the first time that a Jollibee branch appeared in an American TV show.

Jollibee PR Manager Arline Adeva shared that the company feels proud to be associated with “Glee,” a show that has been making waves across the globe.

“We were really thrilled and proud, and pleasantly surprised,” Adeva told abs-cbnNEWS.com.

“Being there entails a sense of pride, for Filipinos to see a familiar establishment in that kind of show. This is also a success for the Philippines,” she added.

Adeva hoped that the additional publicity will translate to higher sales in the future, particularly in the US.

“We’re doing well in the US, but it’s also hard for us to run a store there since we have a lot of competitors,” she said.

Asked if they are planning to borrow the video clip in one of their commercials, she said: “We’ll see. As of now, we’re just happy that it’s [Jollibee] featured on ‘Glee.'” – By Karen Flores, -Source: abs-cbnNEWS.com
