The Philippines’ teen singing sensation Charice Pempengco turned 18 on Monday.

Charice will mark her birthday with her family and some friends in the United States since her first international album is set to be launched on the TV show Oprahon May 10.

“May party lang po dito sa penthouse sa New York City. Di ko po kilala kung sino po ang mga guests. Sabi nila surprise daw po. Kasama ko po ang kapatid kong si Carl (at si mommy),” Charice exclusively told abs-cbnNEWS.com.

Charice, now one of the most successful artists in the United States, said that her only wish for her 18th birthday is the success of her first international album.

“Ngayon po, syempre po ‘yung album launching po mangyayari na. I mean ipapalabas na po sa Oprah this Tuesday. Birthday wish ko po, health ko lang po [at] sana po wag mapabayaan ni God. Di naman po namin pinapabayaan pero sana po nakagabay lang po siya,” Charice said.

The singer said that after the launching of her album she is set to go back to the Philippines to promote her album and celebrate her birthday with some of her fans and less fortunate children.

“Uuwi po ako. Magkakaroon po ako ng album launching sa Glorietta sa May 23. Then sa May 22 po yung celebration ko po with the underprivileged children,” she said.

The small but terrible international singer was born in 1992 in Santa Rosa, Laguna.

Christened Charmaine Clarice Relucio Pempengco, Charice had a traumatic experience when she was still a child when she witnessed her dad poke a gun at her mom.

Her parents separated after a series of domestic squabbles and together with her mother Raquel Relucio, she and her younger brother Carl lived separately from their father.

Charice’s singing career started when she joined local amateur singing contests in Southern Tagalog provinces. Her national appearance on television took off when she joined ABS-CBN’s “Little Big Star” singing search where she placed third in the finals.

What made her an international sensation, though, was when her YouTube singing video clip was viewed worldwide. From there, TV personality Ellen DeGeneres invited Charice to sing live in her show, “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”

Other famous Hollywood TV hosts like Oprah Winfrey followed suit and invited Charice to sing in her top-rating show.

This made history when Oprah became personally involved in Charice’s career. Charice then made appearances in David Foster’s global concerts with such music stalwarts as Andrea Bocelli, Michael Buble, and others.

Today, Charice is a celebrated international star with an international record album under her belt. The CD “Charice: A Star Is Born” produced by Warner Records is scheduled to be released on May 11.

Charice is set to do a mini-concert with David Foster this Tuesday 8 p.m. (US time) that will be aired on the US channel QVC. -Source: With report from Reyma Buan-Deveza, abs-cbnNEWS.com
